Johnny Depp is Hollywood’s Most Overpaid Actor (Again)
For the second straight year Johnny Depp is on top of Forbes’ annual Most Overpaid Actors list.
To get their list Forbes takes the last three films an actor starred in prior to June 2016 with the exception of animated films, movies in which the actor had an “insignificant role,” and films that were released on fewer than 2,000 screens. They subtract the budget of those movies from their worldwide box office gross and then divide by the actor’s salary. Basically how much a movie made for every dollar the actor was paid.
Following that formula, Johnny Depp’s films earned $2.80 for every dollar he was paid. Although it’s a significant increase over his performance last year ($1.20 for every dollar), it was still more than enough to top this list.
Coming in second was Will Smith, who’s movies earned $5 for every dollar he was paid.
Julia Roberts is the only woman to make the top 10 most over paid list. Her films make $10.80 for every dollar she’s paid.
