‘Hello’ video director explains why Adele is using a flip phone

ADELE released her Hello video on Friday, and it seems like all anyone’s been able to talk about is the fact that she uses a FLIP PHONE.  Well, there’s a very specific reason for that.

 

 

The director of the video says, quote, “I never like filming modern phones or cars.  They’re so implanted in our lives that when you see them in movies you’re reminded you’re in reality.

 

 

“If you see an iPhone or a Toyota in a movie, they’re anti-narrative, they take you out of the story.  If I put an iPhone or a modern car in a movie it feels like I’m making a commercial.”

 

 

(Actually, I think the OPPOSITE is true.  The fact that everyone’s fixated on the phone, and not the song, the visuals, or the storyline means that he took more people out of the story with the flip phone than he would have with an iPhone.)
