Sports Illustrated’s 2018 Swimsuit Issue Gets Political

The Sports Illustrated 2018 Swimsuit issue looks a tiny bit different this year.

While the Swimsuit Issue is normally celebration of men flipping through the pages ogling the beauties,  the editor  says she and her team decided to make this one different, even before the #MeToo movement was in the fore front.

This issue features nude images for the first time ever, with the models choosing words to be painted on their bodies instead of clothing.

“These women had complete creative control over the shoot. Every participant was able to choose their own words, choose where on their bodies they went, and then how they were photographed and the positions they did.” The feature is named “In Her Own Words.”

Some models wrote “truth”, “artist” on their bodies, among other words like “mother” and “nurturer”.

The issue will also include more features with athletes, articles from models and messages of empowerment. One model’s T-shirt reads “Own It.”

But yes, there will still be plenty of shots of sandy beaches. This cover, like 20 other previous covers, was shot in the Caribbean.
