Mail service will resume all across the country at noon Tuesday after the Senate passed legislation ordering an end to five weeks of rotating strikes by postal workers.
The government had deemed passage of the bill to be urgent due to the economic impact of continued mail disruptions during the busy holiday season. It rushed the bill through the House of Commons last week. Royal Assent was granted late yesterday.
Canada Post said Monday that the backlog of mail and parcels is “severe” and expected to “worsen significantly” once online orders from Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales are processed.
In a statement, the post office said it is experiencing delivery delays across the country and that’s expected to continue throughout the holiday season and into January.
Dictionary.com announced their Word of the Year is “misinformation.”
Their definition: “False information that is spread, regardless of whether there is intent to mislead.” They say it’s been around for a long time, obviously, but social media has changed how information is shared and absorbed, not always for the best.
This is the third Word of the Year announcement. Collins Dictionary went with “single-use,” and Oxford went with “toxic.”

General Motors has confirmed it will close its Oshawa assembly plant and four other facilities in the United States next year, as part of a global restructuring of the company.
GM will end production of six sedans by the end of 2019. North American customers want SUVs, crossovers, hatchbacks and trucks. Sedans have fallen out of favor.
The company is preparing to transition to self-driving, electric cars for the future.
The soon-to-be closed plants mean GM will no longer make these cars:
- Buick LaCrosse
- Cadillac CT6
- Cadillac XTS
- Chevrolet Cruze
- Chevrolet Impala
- Chevrolet Volt
