Winter weather will make it’s first real appearance this weekend. Starting tonight through tomorrow night, we could see 10-15cm of snow. The wind will also pick up causing blowing snow and bitter cold temperatures starting tomorrow.
The United Way beat it’s 2018 fundraising goal! At yesterday’s touchdown breakfast, it was announced that the organization raised $1,565,140 – more than $6000 than the goal.
The 18th annual Toy Show and Sale is Sunday at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre from 10am-3pm. There will be displays and activities from many local organizations. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students and free for kids under 6. Proceeds go to the Chatham-Kent 4-H Farm Toy Club, Essex-Kent Junior Farmers and Chatham Outreach for Hunger.
Freezin’ for a Reason is tomorrow. It’s the 2nd annual Polar Plunge at the St. Clair College Thames Campus. There’s 2 different plunges, one at 2 and the other at 6. A charity BBQ will be held between the 2 times. All money raised goes to Special Olympics Ontario.
On Sunday night, early Monday morning, the moon will undergo a full lunar eclipse resulting in a Super Blood Wolf Moon.
An eclipse happens when the Sun, Earth and a full moon line up perfectly and the moon then falls into Earth’s shadow. The sun’s light then reflects onto the surface of the moon, turning it a radiant burnt-orange colour, known as a “Blood Moon”.
A Super Moon occurs when the moon moves closer to Earth and appears larger than normal. A Wolf Moon is a name given to a full moon in January.
Unless there is heavy cloud coverage, the eclipse should be fairly easy to see.
The celestial event will be visible at the following times Sunday/Monday:
-Partial umbral eclipse begins 10:34 p.m.
-Total lunar eclipse begins 11:41 p.m.
-Mid-eclipse 12:12 a.m.
-Total lunar eclipse ends 12:43 a.m.
-Partial umbral eclipse ends 1:51 a.m.
