Today is Earth Day. First recognized in 1970, it’ll celebrate 50 years in 2020.

This year the focus is on protecting endangered species.

There’s no longer any question that rising temperatures and increasingly chaotic weather are the work of humans. There’s a 99.9999% chance that we are the cause of global warming, a February study reported. That means we’ve reached the “gold standard” for certainty.


Free Open Swims on this afternoon at both the Blenheim and Wallaceburg pools.

Blenheim Gable Rees Pool free swim from 1:30-3pm and Wallaceburg Sydenham Pool from 1:30-4pm. (Please note that the After School Swim in Wallaceburg is cancelled to allow for the special Open Swim.)


The Lyrid meteor shower will be visible tonight, unless a bright moon interferes with it.

Experts say the peak will come early this morning or Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The meteor shower sometimes bombards the sky with up to nearly 100 meteors per hour, which are known as outbursts. The Lyrids appear each year from about April 16 to 25.

NASA said they have been observed for more than 2,700 years, making them one of the oldest known meteor showers.


Amazon is selling finger food covers.

The silicone fingertip covers are called Chip Fingers and allow people to eat chips, like Cheetos and Doritos, without getting their coloring on their fingers.
