The artist who created paint-by-numbers pictures died at age 93.
Dan Robbins was from Toledo, Ohio. He had been in good health until a series of falls in recent months.
Mr. Robbins was working as a package designer for the Palmer Paint Company in Detroit when he came up with the idea for paint-by-numbers in the late 1940s. He said his inspiration came from Leonardo da Vinci. He showed his first attempt to his boss, and he hated it.
Sales eventuall peaked at 20 million in 1955.

Last year, Heinz had a viral sensation with their Mayochup sauce that combined mayo and ketchup.
Last month, they announced a mayo-mustard mash-up called Mayomust and a mayo-barbecue hybrid called Mayocue. And now there’s another one coming; Kranch, is a mix of ketchup and ranch dressing.
It’s set to hit stores later this month. Makes me want to kruke.
Kranch sauce is here! Reply with #KlaimMyKranch and #Sweeps and we might just give you one of the first 100 bottles. No purchase needed, rules in bio. pic.twitter.com/5UE53AGPbB
