The new Catholic elementary school being built in north Chatham now has a name; St. Angela Merici Catholic School.

It was given final approval on Tuesday during a Board of Trustees meeting for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board. Sister Angela Merici was an Italian educator who founded an organization which later became the Ursuline Order.

Discussions will begin in the fall on a team mascot and school colours for the new school.

The school was originally slated to open for students and staff in September 2019, however, the board has said that it will be impossible to meet its original timeline. An official opening date has yet to be announced.


This is National Paramedic Services Week.

Chatham-Kent EMS are holding two Open Houses this week at their headquarters on Richmond Street.

Jeff Bezos‘ ex-wife, Mackenzie, has signed a pledge to donate half of her $37 billion divorce settlement to charity.

She became one of the wealthiest women in the world after splitting from Jeff in April. MacKenzie plans to donate the money over the course of the rest of her life.

MacKenzie Bezos said in a letter announcing the move that “I have a disproportionate amount of money to share.”


The World Health Organization announced earlier this week that work burn out is now listed as a disease. Yesterday they recognized video game addiction as a mental health disorder.

The WHO classifies the disorder as a “pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behavior (“digital gaming” or “video-gaming”), which may be online (i.e., over the Internet) or offline. It takes precedence over other life interests.”

There has been research documenting cases of people playing video games for up to 20 hours a day to the detriment of other activities, including work, sleep and eating.


The Raptors playoff excitement is spreading.

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment has given the cities of Brampton and Mississauga the go-ahead to open up their own versions of Jurassic Park — the fan zone outside Scotiabank arena.

Brampton will temporarily host ‘Jurassic Square’ and in Mississauga they will be transformed into ‘Jurassic Park West.’ Raptors games will be shown on big screens at both locations.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals is Thursday, tip off at 9.
