Summer officially arrives at 11:54am.
It’s the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year. By longest, the longest period of sunlight.
The solstice is also when those in the northern hemisphere see the highest sun of the year. But it’s getting lower over time. That’s because Earth’s tilt is slowly decreasing.
Today, the sun rises farthest left on the horizon, and sets at its rightmost possible spot. Sunlight strikes places in your rooms that get illuminated at no other time.
Baseball’s Tampa Rays have received permission from Major League Baseball‘s executive council to explore a plan in which they would play home games in both the Tampa Bay area and Montreal.
Under the plan, the Rays would play early season home games in the Tampa Bay area and the remainder of the year in Montreal, with both cities getting new stadiums. The ability to play games early in the season in Florida would preclude the need for a domed stadium, cutting the cost of a new building.
The Expos last played in Montreal in 2004.

Netflix holds something called Hack Days — experiments that may or may not become a part of the streaming service.
At the most recent Hack Days someone introduced Project Rumble Pak: as you watch a movie on your phone the feature delivers haptic feedback at key moments — meaning you could feel every explosion and punch.
A French golfer named Clement Berardo found that out at an event in Spain yesterday, that you can be disqualified if you run out of golf balls.
He ran out on the 15th hole, and he was already 10 over par at that point. Once he realized he was out, he was forced to head straight back to the clubhouse. Berardo is ranked 1,909th in the world.
Back in 2000, Tiger Woods almost ran out of golf balls during the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. He was actually playing good, but he’d taken a handful of balls out of his bag to practice putting on the carpet at the hotel, and forgot to put them back.
You can continue playing if you can borrow more balls from another player, but they must be the exact brand and type. Apparently, Berardo couldn’t do that.
