A State of Emergency is in place for Erie Shore Drive, affecting 40 households. Residents and visitors are being asked to stay away from the area for safety reasons as high winds off the lake are expected to continue for the rest of the week and into the weekend. The road has been closed from Bissnet Line to Erieau Road and hydro has been shut off. Water pressure is also reduced in that area, but drinking water quality should still be fine. More info here.
A major water bottle recall is underway. Millions of Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottles have been recalled because a silicone spout can detach and pose a choking hazard for children.
The company has received 149 complaints, including 18 incidents in which the spout was discovered in a child’s mouth. No injuries had occurred as of Tuesday.
Recalled bottles should be immediately taken from children. Contigo will supply a free replacement lid for faulty products, which have a black base and a black cover over the clear silicon spout. If you have one of these bottles, click here for more info.
The Chatham Concert Band is back in Tecumseh Park tonight for their final performance of the season. Starting at 7:30, bring your lawn chair and relax in the park with the Concert Band for a free show. Tonight’s theme is The Music We Liked.

The Farmer’s Almanac is out with their winter prediction…and it’s not pretty. Canadians are being advised to brace for a “polar coaster” winter, meaning there will be some warm spells and some cold spells with the coldest outbreaks being in late January and into February. Traditional snowbelt areas of Ontario could be in for intense bursts of heavy snow as well. It also says spring will be a bit late, with April still being winter-ish. UGH.
Asteroid Alert! Apparently an asteroid will pass by Earth on September 14th. NASA discovered the rock in 2000 and says it is 2,132 feet wide. It will pass by Earth at a speed of 14,338 mph. NASA says the asteroid will be 3,312,944 miles from Earth.
