5 Things You Need To Know

May 5th is the 126th day of the year. There are 240 days remaining until the end of the year.

It’s Mental Health Week.

The theme this year is all about social connection and the importance to #GetReal about how you feel. Throughout the week, Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton-Kent will be using their social media accounts to share resources, information and activities with the community of Chatham-Kent.

The Canadian Mental Health Association encourages you to use the #GetLoud on your social media posts this week. For more info go to MentalHealthWeek.ca.

Premier Doug Ford teased good news on reopening for retail stores, parks, cottagers and people missing loved ones yesterday, as long as the province’s numbers keep going down.

Ontario reported 370 new cases of COVID-19 Monday.

Ford said that if the promising numbers continue, Ontario will be able to start reopening sooner rather than later and said retail should start getting ready now.

Heinz is expanding their condiment line with a couple of new sauces called Mayoracha and Honeyracha.

It’s a combination of mayonnaise and sriracha and honey and siracha.

In 2018, Heinz released Mayochup, the hybrid of mayonnaise and ketchup and they haven’t stopped with the combination sauces since.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Also known as the Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, a holiday celebrated in parts of Mexico in honour of a military victory in 1862 over the French forces of Napoleon III. Cinco de Mayo isn’t a federal holiday so the day is just like any other day for most people in Mexico.

According to data, lots of Americans have been stocking up on tequila. For the past four weeks, tequila has been the top-selling liquor in the country and sales have gone up 54.2%. Alcohol sales overall are up 24.4% over the past seven weeks compared to the same seven week stretch one year ago.

Today is also Dutch Heritage Day in Canada. This just the 2nd year it’ll be celebrated after the federal government adopted a motion from then Chatham-Kent-Leamington MP Dave Van Kesteren last April.

It is meant to honour the sacrifices made by Canadian veterans who gave their lives fighting for the Liberation of Holland, which took place on May 5, 1945.
