5 Things You Need To Know

May 7th is the 128th day of the year. There are 238 days remaining until the end of the year.

Doug Ford announced yesterday that select Ontario retailers will reopen this week in time for Mother’s Day.

Garden centres will be allowed to fully reopen as of Friday at 12:01 a.m. On Saturday morning, hardware stores will be allowed to reopen.

Customers will now be able to enter garden centres and hardware stores while observing strict social-distancing guidelines.

With the number of new COVID-19 cases trending down, the measures designed to slow the spread are working, and making the easing of retail closures possible.

It was also announced yesterday that the temporary discount on electricity pricing has been extended.

Back in March, the province suspended time-of-use pricing until Friday, May 8th, to help through the pandemic. It will now be extended until the end of May.

Heads up, the Lord Selkirk Bridge in Wallaceburg will be fully closed today for bridge testing and commissioning.

The bridge will be closed from 8-6 for the work. All lanes of the bridge are closed between Dufferin Avenue and Wallace Street.

Detours are in place.

Some LCBO locations will be staying open later beginning next week.

Starting May 14th, more than 360 stores will operate from 10-9 Tuesday through Saturday. Most stores will be open 11-6 on Sundays. They say extending store hours will offer increased convenience and will alleviate potential in-line congestion.

The list of stores that will operate with expanded hours has not been released but the LCBO says its store locator on its website will be updated as of May 14th.

All LCBO stores will remain closed on Mondays until further notice.

The NFL will release its 2020 regular-season schedule tonight.

The schedule will be revealed in a three-hour telecast on NFL Network starting at 8pm. Three hours!

Despite the COVID pandemic, the league still plans to start the season on time while playing in teams’ home stadiums.

Opening day for the 2020 season is September 10th, with the season set to conclude with Super Bowl LV on February 7th, 2021.

Warning this may offend some…

A constipated lizard from Florida just set a record.

It was filled with 22 grams of poop, which made up 80% of its body weight. That’s the highest feces-to-body mass ratio ever recorded in a living animal. The chunky curly-tailed lizard had been feasting on a steady diet of pizza grease, sand and insects, clogging her innards when it was found in a pizza joint.

Sadly she had to be put down.

(Don’t say we didn’t warn you!)
