Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States today.
There will be pomp and a ceremony, former presidents, congressional leaders, A-list performers, parades and tributes to the troops — but only a small, socially distanced audience will be present in person. Washington has been locked down because of the dual threats of the coronavirus pandemic and possible domestic terrorism after the deadly violence at the U.S. Capitol.
Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Bruce Springsteen and Garth Brooks will perform.
Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as president and vice president shortly after noon. Biden will then deliver his first presidential address to the country. At night, there won’t be any traditional inaugural balls because of the pandemic, he will instead take part in a television event called Celebrating America.
Donald Trump will not be there, making him the first president to skip his successor’s inauguration since Andrew Johnson in 1869. His Vice President, Mike Pence, will attend.
It looks like the Toronto Blue Jays have landed a big fish.
