5 Things You Need To Know

February 9th is the 40th day of 2021. There are 325 days remaining until the end of the year.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Monday that the province will not extend emergency orders.

The province will gradually reopen following its state of emergency, which expires today.

The stay-at-home order will remain in effect, as regions transition back to the government’s colour-coded restrictions system over the next three weeks.

Chatham-Kent will “reopen” on February 16th, it is unknown as to what colour we will open under.

Chatham-Kent Public Health reported 38 new COVID19 cases and 32 resolved cases for the weekend.

The active case count is now 141, five more than Friday.

There are now seven deaths locally, after a resident of Fairfield Park Nursing Home passed.

Ontario is reporting 1,265 new cases. Toronto, York and Peel continue to be the provincial hotspots.

Chatham-Kent Hope Haven is opening its doors for anyone that needs to get out of the cold.

They will act as a Warming Centre 24 hours per day until further notice. The facility is offering coffee, a hot meal, and snacks, as well as a warm place to sit for a while.

Those willing to lend a hand are encouraged to contact Hope Haven by calling 519-351-4010 or emailing [email protected].

A 3D printed house is for sale in New York.

The Riverhead, New York, home is listed online with an asking price of $299,999.

The company can set up its Autonomous Robotic Construction System that lays concrete layer by layer, creating footing, the foundation of a house and the interior and exterior walls of the structure. The cost of construction is 50% cheaper than the cost of comparable newly-constructed homes and 10 times faster.

The 3D printed house will include 1,407 square feet of living space and will be built with concrete. The home has three bedrooms, two baths and a 2.5-car detached garage.

The home is the first 3D printed home to receive a certificate of occupancy in the United States.

Last week on the 5 Things You Need to Know we told you how you could pay to have a cockroach named after your ex on Valentine’s Day.

Here’s another one…The Humane Society in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is offering a service this year where for a donation of at least $5, they’ll write your ex’s name on the bottom of a kitty litter box and on Valentine’s Day, cats will literally do their business on the name. They’ve named the fundraiser, Crappy Ex.

They say they’ve already had, “quite a few” names submitted.
