The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit cleared Wallaceburg’s outbreak at the Fairfield Park Nursing Home.

An outbreak was declared at the home on January 10th, and since then a total of 100 COVID-19 cases have been reported among residents and staff.

Fairfield Park will continue to work with the Public Health Unit over the coming days to resume many activities at the home.


Two new positive COVID19 cases reported on Thursday by Chatham-Kent Public Health.

There was 1 recovery. There are now 12 active cases locally.

The C-K Vaccination Clinic is accepting phone calls to book appointments today from 9:30-4, 519-351-1010.

Ontario is reported 994 positive cases. That makes 3 straight days of less than 1,000 cases.


Walter Gretzky, father of Canadian hockey legend Wayne Gretzky has passed away at the age of 82.

Wayne and his wife Janet Jones Gretzky confirmed his death late Thursday. Gretzky had battled Parkinson’s disease for many years and “other health issues.”

Walter wrote two books and was known as Canada’s Hockey Dad.

Gretzky is predeceased by his wife Phyllis, whom he married in 1960 and went on to have five children with.


Air Canada has agreed to refund passengers who had their flights cancelled or postponed during the pandemic.

In December, the federal government directed the Canadian Transportation Agency, which oversees issues related to passenger rights, to strengthen rules that require airlines to refund travellers for cancelled flights.

However, those rules would have only applied to future cancellations and would not be retroactive. It’s been estimated that as of September 30th, around 3.9 million air passengers including those with Air Canada have been denied a refund for flights they did not take.

Air Canada has not confirmed the refunds, the claims are being reported by Unifor.


A massive iceberg has broken off from the Brunt Ice Shelf in Antarctica.

The piece of ice spans 1,270 square kilometres, almost exactly twice the size of Toronto (Approx 630 sq/km.

Glaciologists have been expecting this big calving event to happen for at least a decade. They believe the iceberg may move away over the coming weeks or months, or that it may run aground and remain close to the Brunt Ice Shelf.
