5 Things You Need To Know

May 10th is the 130th day of 2021. There are 235 days remaining until the end of the year.

The province of Ontario reported 3,216 new COVID19 cases were reported on Sunday, with 47 additional deaths.

It’s the second time in the last five days there have been more than 40 deaths

Chatham-Kent Public Health doesn’t release updates on the weekend. On Friday there were 6 new cases with 4 recoveries. The total number of active cases is 32, with 4 hospitalized. A local update will come after 10 this morning.

Expect some cooler weather overnight to begin the week.

Environment Canada has issued a frost advisory for Chatham-Kent. Frost is expected early Sunday night, continuing for several more nights through mid-week.

The average temperature for the region this time of year is a high of around 18 C and a low of 5 C.

Environment Canada is reminding people that frost may damage plants. Preventative measures should be taken to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees.

The remnants of China’s “out-of-control” Long March 5B rocket landed in the Indian Ocean on Sunday, ending days of speculation over where the debris would land.

The rocket was used by the Chinese to launch part of their space station about last week. Most space debris objects burn up in the atmosphere, but the massive size of this allowed it to stay intact.

The rocket’s “exact entry point into the Earth’s atmosphere” couldn’t be pinpointed until within hours of re-entry. U.S. Space Command tracked the rocket’s trajectory.

Today is the kick-off to Nurses Week.

A new survey shows Ontario nurses are feeling overworked and emotionally exhausted by the pandemic.

CKSY has teamed up with Sleep Country to give a lucky nurse a $250 gift card. We want to hear about a nurse that needs a good nights sleep, a picture would be even better. Submit online now!

Crocs is giving away 50,000 pairs of free clogs every day this week to nurses. The company will distribute 10,000 pairs each day beginning at noon on their website. The offer is good each day until 10,000 pairs are given away.

The International Council of Nurses‘ theme for Nurses Week is “Nurses: A Voice to Lead.” This year – more than ever – we are looking to your voices and ideas for innovations and improvements to elevate nursing practice and define what it means to provide compassionate, connected care.
