5 Things You Need To Know

May 27th is the 147th day of 2021. There are 218 days remaining until the end of the year.

Just one new positive COVID-19 cases reported by Chatham-Kent Public Health on Wednesday.

There were 5 recoveries, the total active cases are down to 20.

There were 1,095 positive cases across Ontario reported Wednesday. The province is also reporting more than twice as many resolved cases as new infections. The number of resolved cases has outnumbered new cases each day since mid-April.

C-K Public Health is now booking second vaccination doses for those that received their shots from February 14-March 6.

As more vaccinations are acquired, more appointments are added. Check to see if your 16-week window is currently booking by going here.

Wayne Gretzky has a new job.

The Great One will be a studio analyst for Turner Sports in the U.S. throughout the regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The network recently acquired the rights to NHL hockey.

I’m thrilled to be joining the studio team in their inaugural NHL season,” said Gretzky. “This is an exciting opportunity to share my experiences and perspectives on the game I will always cherish, while hopefully informing and entertaining fans along the way.”

Wayne retired from the NHL in 1999. He played 20 seasons in the NHL, including winning four Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers, and is the NHL’s all-time leading scorer with the most goals and assists in a career.

It has been reported that Wayne will earn $3 million per year.

The province’s Minister of Transportation announced this week that a rail line running between Toronto and Timmins/Cochrane will reopen.

The service would allow passengers coming from the North to travel overnight to maximize their day in the Toronto area and to avoid overnight accommodations.

The Northlander Passenger Train service shut down in 2012, leaving only a few buses available to take people between Toronto and Ontario’s north. Earlier this month Greyhound Bus announced they are no longer running in Canada.

The hope is a 13-stop passenger train route, that would offer service based on seasonal travel demand, would be operating by 2022.

Venus, the closest planet to Earth, will appear bright in the night sky this week.

To find it, look west or northwest 30 minutes after sunset, and it should be immediately visible. It’s the second-brightest object in our night sky after the moon.

The planet is obscured by the glare of the sun during much of winter and spring. Venus will remain visible in the night sky until the end of the year.
