June 24th is the 175th day of 2021. There are 190 days remaining until the end of the year.
Ontario will enter Step 2 of the province’s reopening plan on June 30th according to sources. The official announcement is expected today.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Premier Doug Ford said the government is “working hard to get to Stage 2 as soon as possible.”
The original target date for Step 2 was July 2nd. Step 2 would allow for personal care services to reopen and would allow retailers to open at 50% capacity. It would also allow for larger outdoor gatherings and smaller indoor gatherings.
As of Wednesday, 76% of Ontario adults have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and roughly 27% are now fully vaccinated.
Just one new positive COVID-19 cases reported Wednesday by Chatham-Kent Public Health.
There were three recoveries, total active case count locally is down to just 4.
There were 255 positive cases across Ontario Wednesday. That’s the smallest number of new infections reported since Sep. 13.
The province sets a new single-day record for vaccine doses administered on Tuesday – 227,318.
Usually this week thousands would be gathering along the Detroit/Windsor waterfront for the annual Ford Fireworks, but thanks to the pandemic, the show will only be seen on television.
This year it will take place at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Michigan, with no spectators. The park will be closed to the public.
You’ll be able to watch the fireworks on WDIV Local 4 on Monday, June 28 from 9 – 11pm.
Fireworks at the river are expected to return in 2022.
Wayne Gretzky, his future son-in-law, PGA star Dustin Johnson and former NBA MVP Steve Nash are now part owners of a National Lacrosse League expansion franchise in Las Vegas.
It’ll be the league’s 15th team and will start play in the fall of 2022.

The last Supermoon of 2021 is tonight.
The Super Strawberry Moon will be up from sunset to sunrise on Thursday night.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac explains why it is called the Strawberry Moon, “This was the time to gather ripening strawberries.”
Depending on weather conditions, it will be visible to the naked eye this afternoon and this evening. The full Strawberry Supermoon will also be visible on Friday night.
The moon is going to appear 7% bigger and 15% brighter than average.
