5 Things You Need To Know

December 13th is the 347th day of 2021. There are 18 days remaining until the end of the year.

Ontario reported over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for the fifth straight day Sunday; 1,476 new cases.

Ontario announced Friday afternoon that, starting on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at 8:00am, anyone 18 and over would be eligible to schedule their booster dose appointment.

Only adults who’ve been fully vaccinated for 168 days (half a year) will be eligible for a booster at this time, unless otherwise recommended for medical reasons.

For anyone over the age of 50, eligibility opens up to that age bracket this morning at 8:00am.

The 108th Grey Cup was awarded last night to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Bombers are back-to-back CFL champions, defeating the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 33 – 25 in overtime. The Ticats had a 12 point lead in the 4th quarter, but couldn’t hold on. They were looking to win their first title since 1999.

It was only the fourth time in Grey Cup history that overtime was needed to decide the championship – the first since 2016.

Toronto Raptors SuperFan Nav Bhatia wasn’t at the Raps game on Friday night.

It’s the first home games he’s missed since the Toronto franchise joined the NBA in 1995.

Bhatia is in isolation after attending an event earlier in the week. He said he’s following a Toronto Public Health request that everyone in attendance at the Giants of Africa event isolate, he did say he wasn’t experiencing symptoms.

Actor Kal Penn will play the part of Bhatia in an upcoming movie about the mega-fan, sat in Bhatia’s seat along the baseline. The Raptors beat the Knicks.

Good chance to catch a meteor shower this week.

The Geminid meteor shower began on December 4th. It peaks here in Canada early this morning and again tomorrow, between 2 and 6am.

The Geminid meteor shower tends to have more meteors per hour than many others. This shower is known to produce up to 120 meteors per hour.

One of the best times to catch the meteor shower will be after 3am when the moon has set and the shower will be at its peak.
