5 Things You Need To Know

January 5th is the fifth day of the year. There are 360 days remaining until the end of the year.


Ontario students return to the classroom today; the virtual classroom.

Premier Doug Ford announced the shift to remote learning Monday, less than a week after the provincial government said students would return to physical school today. The return to the classroom will now take place no earlier than January 17th. The province has said that that date will be reassessed based on public health indicators.


Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for Chatham-Kent to prepare for strong wind gusts today. Winds are expected between 70 and 80 kilometres per hour.

This morning will start somewhat mild, with temperatures hovering around 2 degrees, by the afternoon, a cold front is anticipated to sweep across the region bringing winds from the southwest. Windchill could drop temps to -15.

Wind conditions are expected to settle down by late this evening.


Chathamโ€™s Bridget Carleton has resigned with the WNBAโ€™s Minnesota Lynx.

The 24 year old, averaged 4.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 19.3 minutes per game for the Lynx during the 2021 season, her third in the WNBA.

She made her Olympic debut during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics playing in all 3 games. Bridget is currently playing in Israel.

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.


Movie Night at the Capitol Theatre has been postponed for the time being due to the recent provincial restrictions.

Beginning today at Tim Hortons, Team Canada hockey cards will be available.

The card set was supposed to be run in conjunction with the of the 2022 IHHF World Junior Championship tournament, but it was postponed four days into action due to COVID-19 outbreaks. A pack of three will cost $1.99, or $1 with the purchase of a beverage. The binder will also be available for $16.99.

The first 70 cards in the set are of NHL stars, the next 30 feature three cards feature top stars of the Team Canada womenโ€™s program. Itโ€™s the first time women have been featured on Tim Hortons cards.
