February 17th is the 48th day of the year. There are 317 days remaining until the end of the year.


Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex.

Freezing rain mixed with ice pellets today. Ice accumulation of 2 to 5 mm possible. Snow, at times heavy, this afternoon and tonight. Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm are expected.

Reduced visibility due to heavy snow and blowing snow.

Environment Canada is advising residents to be careful when walking or driving in affected areas.


Ontario reported 1,403 people hospitalized due to the virus. Hospitalizations are down from 1,550 the previous day and from over 2,000 one week ago.

Chatham-Kent Public Health reported three new COVID-19 deaths since its last update.


Couple more medals (of the gold variety) Canada at the Winter Olympics.

On Day 13 the men’s 5000m short track speed skating relay won Gold. That’s Charles Hamelin’s 6th Olympic medal of his career, tying him with long track speed skater Cindy Klassen as Canada’s most decorated Winter Olympian.

The women’s hockey team took Gold in a win over the U.S. 3-2.

The men’s hockey teams chance for Gold is gone, losing 2-0 to Sweden.

Add a silver medal early this morning to Marielle Thompson in women’s ski cross.
Canada now has 20 medals; 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 11 Bronze – good for 11th overall. We’re 4th in total medals.


There’s a rocket on course to slam into moon next month.

The rocket was originally wrongly identified as a SpaceX rocket, but according to NASA it is likely from a past Chinese lunar mission.

The rocket is expected to hit the moon at 7:26am on March 4th. The impact will be on the far side of the moon and not visible from Earth. The rocket will likely disintegrate on impact and create a crater about 10 to 20 meters (32.8 to 65.6 feet) across.


Ripley Aquarium in Toronto is hiring – and you could be swimming with the fishes.

They’re looking for a certified scuba diver who is comfortable with public speaking and should know about all of the animals in the exhibits.
