A partial schedule for February has been posted online.
The Winter Olympics in Beijing Opening Ceremonies begin this morning.
Nearly 3,000 athletes will compete in 15 disciplines across 109 events, lasting until the closing ceremonies on February 20th.
Organizers have set an extremely strict standard of Covid-19 prevention and control measures, most notably a “closed loop system” — a bubble completely cut off from the rest of the city.
With Beijing being 13 hours ahead of us, events taking place in the evening in China will air live in the early mornings in Canada.
You can watch the opening ceremony this morning beginning at 6:30am on CBC TV and CBC.ca.
Dry February is here.
Dry February is the Canadian Cancer Society‘s campaign to raise awareness and funds to combat cancer.
The idea is for casual drinkers to go “dry” for the month of February to improve their health and acknowledge the risks associated with drinking.
According to the Canadian Cancer Society, the more you drink alcohol in any form – the higher your cancer risk.
To sign up go to DryFeb.ca and register and start looking for sponsors. You can choose to participate for the whole month, 21 days, 14 days, or customize a timeframe that works for you.
This will be the seventh year for the Dry-Feb challenge.
An artist has plopped a 410-pound block of pure gold down in the middle of Central Park and is calling it an art installation.
It’s a perfect cube, over a foot-and-a-half on all sides. But it’s not actually a solid block. The walls are about a quarter-inch thick.
A German artist named Niclas Castello is behind it, and it’s not for sale. But the gold itself is worth $11.7 million. So a security team guarded it the whole time it was there on Wednesday. It was a one-day only thing.
It’s not clear what he plans to do with it now, one art expert said it’s supposed to be a commentary on the evolution of money.
