On Sunday Ontario reported a a decline in COVID-19-related hospitalization for the fifth straight day. There were 2,230 patients admitted.
The Friday update from Chatham-Kent Public Health added three more deaths locally. COVID-19 has now claimed 52 lives in Chatham-Kent since the pandemic started in March of 2020. A weekend update will come between 10-11 this morning.

On Saturday morning Canadian speedskater Isabelle Weidemann picked up Canada’s first medal at the Beijing Olympics with bronze in the women’s 3,000 metres.
Mikaël Kingsbury won silver in men’s moguls. It’s his third straight Olympic medal in men’s moguls.
Canada grabbed doubled up in snowboard slopestyle; Max Parrot won gold and Mark McMorris bronze on Monday.
After the opening weekend, Canada has 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze, good for 4th overall.
Detroit will be the site of the United States first road that will wirelessly charge electric vehicles as they drive over it.
Copper coils are installed under the asphalt to transfer energy from the electrical grid to receivers that can be mounted underneath any electric vehicle, in turn, automatically charging the vehicle’s battery.
The technology works similarly to how wireless charging devices send power to phones.
The pilot program is a first in the U.S. The project is expected to be operational by 2023.

The chocolate company that makes, among many others, Reese’s and Kit Kats said it is planning “list price increases across all segments”.
The company says price hikes should help offset higher ingredient and labour costs. Sugar, dairy, packaging materials and specialty ingredients prices have all gone up.
In 2020, demand for candy and snacks grew as we bought comfort foods and hunkered down at home. Retail sales of Reese’s grew close to 25% over the past two years.
