Environment Canada reports a two day heat warning is in effect for today and Canada Day Friday in Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex.

Maximum temperatures are expected to reach near 32 degrees Celsius with overnight minimums near 21 degrees Celsius. Humidex values are expected to be in the mid thirties. The heat event is expected to come to an end on Friday night.

  • The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
  • Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.
  • Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Garbage and recycling pick up for Friday will be pushed back one day for the Canada Day holiday.

Pick up for those effected will be on Saturday.


Municipal offices and most services will be closed for Canada Day, Friday, July 1st others include:

RIDE CK: All Ride CK Transit services will not operate Friday, July 1.

POOLS: Blenheim Gable Rees Rotary Pool and Wallaceburg Sydenham Pool will be open Friday, July 1 for a Free Rec Swim from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m., all other programming is cancelled. All outdoor pools will be closed on July 1. For more information.


7-Eleven plans to celebrate their 95th birthday on July 11, aka 7/11 this year by offering free Slurpees, at participating stores, from July 1st to July 11th.

A wide variety of Slurpee flavors, including classics like Blue Raspberry, Cherry, Pina Colada or Coca-Cola, the fan-favorite that made history as the first Slurpee drink in space last summer. New limited-time only flavors like Mango Lemonade and mystery flavor What the Fanta. The color is orange, but looks may be deceiving.

After almost four years of “retirement” actress Cameron Diaz is back working, starring in a new movie on Netflix with Jamie Foxx titled “Back in Action”. It was announced via Foxx’s Twitter where he released a possibly real possibly scripted phone call between Cameron Diaz, Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady, and himself. Cameron’s last movie was 2014’s “Annie”, with Jamie.
