5 Things You Need To Know

July 18th is the 199th day of the year. There are 166 days remaining until the end of the year.

Finally getting some rain in Chatham-Kent this morning.

Rain and thunderstorms possible to start off the week, it’ll feel like 36.

Unsettled with a slim chance of rain on Tuesday, then the sunshine and humidity returns Wednesday and sticks around for the rest of the week. The humidity will make it feel like it’s in the high 30’s/low 40’s.

Get your thinking caps on – Chatham-Kent will be looking for some creative names for six more snowplows this winter season.

Last year, more than 1,000 names were submitted to the contest and over 5,300 votes were cast. Anita Shovel came in first place.

The nomination period is set to open this September through the online at Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent.

This phase will be open for at least two weeks before municipal officials narrow the list down to 25 names. The public will then vote to decide the top six names, one for each ward across Chatham-Kent.

The cost of creating the signs on each of the renamed snowplows is being covered by WINMAR through sponsorship.

Australian Cameron Smith won the title Champion Golfer of the Year after winning the 150th Open Championship.

Smith shot a final- round 64, to finish -20 and match the lowest score to par in major championship history. That total beat the previous lowest winning score in an Open at St. Andrews, which Tiger Woods set at 19-under in 2000.

This is the 28-year-old’s first career major win and sixth on the PGA TOUR. He takes home $2.5 million for the win.

The next major will be the Masters Tournament in April 2023.

The New York Times is turning the popular online game Wordle into a board game.

It’s called Wordle: The Party Game, and it’s basically the same as the one you play online. But you’re competing against other people.

One person knows what the five-letter word is, and everyone else has six chances to guess it. It comes with dry-erase boards to write on, and little green-and-yellow tiles to cover the letters with.

There are four ways to play: Classic mode, fast mode, where it’s a race, timed mode, where you have to beat the clock and team mode, where you’re grouped up.

You can pre-order it on Amazon for $20, and it ships in October.

A German company just unveiled a new front suspension for cars called EasyTurn that lets your front wheels turn 80 degrees in either direction.

90 degrees would be sideways, so just a little less than that. And it makes tight U-turns easier too.

You can’t buy it yet, and they haven’t said how much it’ll cost. It also might not even fit your car, because it requires room under the hood that might be taken up by other stuff.

They’re trying to get the big car companies to start using it, but it’s not clear if it’ll happen or not. So for now, it’s just an idea.

They posted a video of a car they put it in, and it does make parallel parking easy. You can back in at any angle, and just cut the wheel at the end.
