July 5th is the 186th day of the year. There are 179 days remaining until the end of the year.
There is a heat warning in effect for Chatham-Kent.
Daytime highs near 31 degrees Celsius are expected again on Tuesday with a humidex value reaching into the low forties. An overnight low temperature near 21 degrees Celsius is expected tonight, providing little relief from the heat. Hot and humid conditions will likely come to an end Tuesday night.
The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. Never leave people or pets in a hot vehicle.
Daytime cooling centres will be available at several locations in Chatham-Kent:
- Municipal offices in Blenheim, Chatham, Ridgetown, Tilbury and Wallaceburg from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Employment and Social Services will also offer the same service at its main office lobby on the first floor of the Community Human Services Building at 435 Grand Avenue West in Chatham from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Public libraries in Chatham-Kent are also offering free internet use and time to browse their collections as a way to beat the heat.
- Hope Haven will offer services and a cooling station at its location at 183 Wellington Street West in Chatham from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well.
- In Wallaceburg, The James Street Drop-In Centre will offer services and a cooling station at its location at 719 James Street from noon to 9 p.m.

Air Canada is cancelling more than 9,500 flights in July and August, most of which will be to and from Toronto or Montreal. International flights will remain unaffected, in part because they are harder to rebook.
Three routes from Montreal to Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Kelowna, B.C., will be temporarily suspended. Air Canada will also suspend its route from Toronto to Fort McMurray, Alta.
Air Canada’s policy for delays and cancellations provides customers with the option of receiving a full refund in the event of a cancellation, delay of more than three hours or if a connecting flight is added.
More protections for passengers are coming as of September 8 including refunds of alternative flights for cancelled flights due to reasons outside the control of the carriers.
Air Canada’s flight-status page on its website allows passengers who have already booked a flight to see whether it has been cancelled up to one week ahead of time.
Beginning July 1, 2022, school buses in Ontario will start using overhead amber flashing lights to indicate that they’re slowing down to prepare to pick-up or drop off passengers.
This change will help keep kids safe. 🚌 🧒
