5 Things You Need To Know

November 14th is the 318th day of the year. There are 47 days remaining until the end of the year.

Hope you enjoyed the double digit temps last week, because they’re in our rearview mirror now.

According to Environment Canada the coolest week of the season, so far, is here.

Sunshine and a high of 3 today, with midweek temps around 5 with rain and flurries expected. Friday is the Downtown Chatham Parade with sun, cloud and flurries and a high of just one. Saturday, Santa visits Wallaceburg with his long underwear; cloudy and a high of -3!

Many believe that Ontario’s top doctor, Dr. Kieran Moore, will recommend the public begin masking today when he speaks to the media, to help overwhelmed children’s hospitals.

Sources say there will be no mask mandate put in place.

Ontario is over capacity with pediatric ICU beds, with the number of children receiving care exceeding the number of available units.

Premier Doug Ford has announced Sunday that the province will extend the gas tax cut for an additional year.

New legislation will be introduced today for the extension.

In the spring, legislation was passed that cut the gas tax cut by 5.7 cents per litre.

Ontario will release its fall economic statement today.

King Charles III will celebrate his first birthday on the throne today.

One of the bonuses of being the British monarch is that you get to celebrate your birthday twice: on your actual birthday and on your official one.

King Edward started the tradition of celebrating his official birthday (November 9th) privately, and again during the warmer Summer months when there was a greater likelihood of good weather for the Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping of the Colour. His daughter, Queen Elizabeth stuck with that tradition too.

King Charles III is expected to keep to the tradition his mother and grandfather started.

A band will perform a special rendition of Happy Birthday at 11am (6am our time) this morning. That performance will be followed at midday by a 41-gun royal salute, followed by another rendition of Happy Birthday. An hour later, a 62-gun salute.

King Charles is turning 74 today.

Southern Comfort is celebrating the holidays by selling a new pair of holiday pants called Drinking Pants.

The pants are black and say Drinking Pants on the backside. They also have a pocket designed to hold a shot glass.

A description of the pants reads: “A reversible “fancy pants” option for tasteful partygoers not averse to wearing the same pants two days in a row guaranteed to impress even the most discerning relatives at formal Thanksgiving Day gatherings.”

The pants are a one-of-a-kind line of unisex custom trousers specifically designed to make the most of the holiday season.

The pants are available online today for $11.23. Each order also receives a free shot glass.
