5 Things You Need To Know

August 4th is the 216th day of the year. There are 149 days remaining until the end of the year.

The Third Street Bridge in Chatham has re-opened ahead of schedule.

The bridge was closed to vehicles and pedestrians on Tuesday and expected to re-open on Friday evening. However, it re-opened Thursday afternoon instead.

The closure was required to replace asphalt on either side of the bridge.

Some good news, if you’re traveling over the long weekend, today could be a good day to fill up your tank.

Gas prices in southern Ontario are expected to drop four cents a litre today.

That would bring the average price in the province to $1.67 a litre.

As of 5 am, gas prices in Chatham are around $1.65, $1.60 in Wallaceburg and $1.58 in Tilbury.

There’s a food drive in Blenheim this weekend.

Donations of non-perishable food items, gifts cards and cash can be dropped off for the Out-a-Space 2.0 fundraiser at Sobeys in Blenheim from 10 am-2 pm on Saturday.

Waste Connections will match donations up to $10,000. All proceeds will go to the World of Life Church Soup Kitchen.

The event will also feature a free BBQ, free games and some prizes.

Some new activities kick off Friday for CK Rec Summer Fest.

After Beach Days and Play Rangers every weekend in July, CK Rec will hold Party and Movie in the Park every Friday for the month of August.

Tonight, it will be at Crothers Park in Wallaceburg. Party in the Park runs from 6 pm-8pm and the movie starts at dusk. Tonight’s movie is The Super Mario Bros movie.

Summer Fest events are free.

The schedule for the next three Fridays can be found by clicking here.

Our August long weekend looks like it could be a mixed bag

According to Environment Canada, Saturday will be sunny, high near 30C

But we could see some rain on Sunday and Monday, with highs in the mid-20s for both those days
