September 22nd is the 265th day of the year. There are 100 days remaining until the end of the year.


The Ridge Runners East Kent car group will host the first-ever East Kent Hot Rods for Hospice benefit on Saturday at the Ridgetown Fairgrounds.

All vehicles will be displayed from 8-4p.m.

There will also feature food, entertainment, vendors, and activities for kids and families. Participants of the car and tractor shows will receive dash plaques and be eligible to win a selection of door prizes.

The event is free admission for guests, but cash donations for the Hospice will be appreciated.

There is a fee for vehicles, vendors, and swap meet participants. All proceeds will go to the Chatham-Kent Hospice.


The Chatham Coloured All-Stars will be honoured in the 3rd annual Field of Honour Charity Baseball Game Saturday.

Everyone is welcome to come by Fergie Jenkins Field (corner of Queen St. and Tweedsmuir Ave. E, Chatham) Saturday at 11am.

Descendants of the Chatham Coloured All-Stars baseball team will be competing against one another on the baseball diamond in honour of and to celebrate the legacy of this historic team. The 1934 Chatham Coloured All-Stars were the first all-Black team to win an Ontario Baseball Association Championship.

Entrance to the day will be by donation. There will be a donation tent set up at the front of the park. All seating is first come, first serve so get to the game early and pack lawn chairs for additional seating.


Autumn officially arrives at 2:50 Saturday morning.

The Autumn Equinox occurs when the sun moves directly over the Earth’s equator, bringing the same amount of daylight and darkness on that day. We should get around 12 hours of light and dark tomorrow. Tomorrow, the sun will rise due east and set due west, a pattern that will repeat during the spring equinox.

Fall ends on Thursday, December 21st when Winter begins.

Daylight Saving Time will end November 5th and most people will move their clocks back one hour before going to bed on November 4th.


The world’s largest beer festival kicked off on Saturday in Munich Germany.

The annual Oktoberfest, attracts around 6 million visitors from around the world. Drinkers sit at long communal tables to swig beer, eat sausages, pretzel or pork knuckle, and listen to oompah bands. The German Oktoberfest runs until October 3rd.

A little closer to home, the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest begins today. Since 1969, the German tradition has taken over K-W and continues to support over 70 charities. It’s being held until October 14th.

The World Jigsaw Puzzle Championships are underway in Spain.

Three events are contested in the championships. In all events, placement is determined by the fastest completion within the time limit. There is a Team event, a Pairs event, and an Individual event.

The competition wraps up on Sunday.
