Garbage and recycling pickup across Chatham-Kent will be pushed back one day this week because of the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Friday pickups will be Saturday.


The Municipality of Chatham-Kent and Waste Connections of Canada Ridge Landfill are hosting a household hazardous waste day today.

The drop off is at Veolia Environmental, at 141 Prosperity Way near Chatham.

Today’s drop off will be from 8-1pm.

The final household hazardous waste day for 2023 is on Tuesday, November 14, 8am-1pm.

Residents can safely dispose of household hazardous material at no charge. A list of acceptable material can found here.


The NHL kicks off the 2023-24 regular season tonight, with a tripleheader. It’s the 107th season.

The Leafs and Red Wings don’t play tonight. The Maple Leafs will play Montreal tomorrow and the Red Wings begin in New Jersey on Thursday.

The 2024 All-Star Game is scheduled for February 3 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. The season runs to April 18, 2024 with the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin shortly after.


The latest Powerball numbers were pulled last night, but no one got all of them.

The Wednesday night draw is now up to an estimated $1.73 billion.

Simply match all the numbers and you can choose between a $1.73 billion payout spread over 30 annual installments or a lump sum cash prize of $756.6 million—usually the more popular choice.

This is the fourth time this year that a lottery jackpot amount has crossed $1 billion. Prior to this, there had only been eight other billion-dollar jackpots in U.S. history.

**Reminder: There are no restrictions that prohibit Canadians from playing the Powerball lottery. Be aware and very careful of websites offering to sell to Canadians.


A short work week and Environment Canada is calling for a chilly start, but we’ll have a little sunshine weaving in and out of the clouds.

A slight chance of rain each day this week but most of the days will be dry. A high of 13 today, might see some rain.

According to the regularly updated Ontario Parks fall colour report, Rondeau Provincial Park is at 20% colour change with 10% already fallen. Ontario Parks says that people who are interested in taking in the colours in peak or near-peak areas to head out sooner rather than later as upcoming rain could accelerate leaf fall.
