5 Things You Need To Know

January 16th is the 16th day of the year. There are 350 days remaining until the end of the year.

The Chatham-Kent Public Library hosts Movies @ Your Library every Tuesday at the Chatham branch.

Book your spot today to see Brother.

The Extreme Cold Warning has been lifted, but it’s not much warmer.

Cloud and flurries today and a high of -10C. Tomorrow a high of -7C.

Things should get back to normal next week. The normal high at this time of year is about minus 2, the normal low is about minus 9.

The NFL Divisional Playoff schedule is set.

On Saturday, the Houston Texans will play the Baltimore Ravens at 4:30 and the Green Bay Packers play the San Francisco 49ers at 8:15.

Sunday, the Lions host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 3 and the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Buffalo to play the Bills at 6:30.

Something to keep an eye on for this weekend is the possible Transit Windsor strike. If you’re planning on heading to Detroit for the game and using the Special Events Bus, that may not be available.

Ikea has recalled a popular charger sold in Canada as it poses a burn and electric shock hazard.

Ikea is urging all customers who own the Åskstorm 40W USB charger, in dark grey, to stop using the product and to contact them for a full refund. Check the model number on the back of the label and if it matches the following, “ICPSW5-40-1” stop its usage immediately. If you do have the recalled product, then you can take it to any IKEA store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.

The power cable on this specific charger may get damaged or broken “after being wrapped around a charger or bent back and forth after a longer period of use.” As a result this may lead to “thermal burns and electric shock.”

The world could see its first trillionaire in the next 10 years.

That’s according to anti-poverty group Oxfam International. Their annual report found the ultra-rich are still getting richer, and at a pretty quick clip too.

Since the pandemic hit in 2020, almost five billion people around the globe have gotten poorer. But the five richest men have seen their wealth more than double, up 114%.

That includes Elon Musk, French businessman Bernard Arnault, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Oracle founder Larry Ellison and investment guru Warren Buffett.
To put $1 trillion in perspective: A million one-dollar bills stacked up would be 358 feet high, and a billion would be about 68 miles or 109.4 KMs high. That’s right around the edge of space.

A trillion one-dollar bills would be just under 6,800 miles or 10943.54 KMs high, or almost a third of the distance to the Moon.
