5 Things You Need To Know

February 2nd is the 33rd day of the year. There are 333 days remaining until the end of the year.

Today is a PA Day for most students in Chatham-Kent.

There are free swim times available in Wallaceburg and Blenheim today.

The Blenheim Gable Rees Rotary Pool from 1:30-3 p.m. and the Wallaceburg Sydenham Pool 1:30-4 p.m.

There’s some FREE Public Skating in Chatham-Kent this weekend, starting with a couple of PA Day skates in Tilbury from 12:30-2 p.m. and at Chatham’s Erickson Arena from 4-5:30 p.m.

There is plenty of opportunities to hit the ice all weekend, throughout the municipality. Click here for more information on the ice skating programs.

Tim Hortons is bringing back the Special Olympics fundraising donut.

The Special Olympics Donut will be available across the country from this weekend (February 2-4) The donut itself is like the chocolate glazed donut without the glaze — instead, it has white fondant with coloured sprinkles on one half and a dollop of whipped topping in the middle.

All of the proceeds from each donut sold will be donated to Special Olympics Canada to help athletes have access to more opportunities so they can reach their full potential in sports and life.

This year’s Special Olympics Canada Winter Games are kicking off on February 27 in Calgary and will run until March 2.

Get ready for a weekend that should include some sunshine.

The sun only showed itself for five days over the month of January, according to The Weather Network.

The month of December featured 28 days of cloud and fog, followed by a dreary January being cloudy for 26 days. To put it into perspective, it’s been 10 weeks since there have been two sunny weekend days across the region. The last time we had sunshine through a weekend forecast was on November 18 and 19.

It’s Groundhog Day.

Legend has it, if the groundhog sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t see his shadow, spring is just around the corner.

Last year, Wiarton Willie, Ontario’s prognosticating rodent, predicted an early Spring.

This is the 68th year Willie will be making a prediction. Well, someone that looks like Willie anyways. Willie died of a tooth abscess prior to the 2021 prediction. The Mayor used a fur hat two years ago, but it wasn’t confirmed until November that Willie had in fact passed.

The Wiarton Willie prediction will be made at 8:07am.
