5 Things You Need To Know

February 26th is the 57th day of the year. There are 309 days remaining until the end of the year.

We’re just a week away from the kick-off of the CK Mornings Community Food Drive.

With your help, CK Mornings, Postma Heating and Cooling and the Chatham Goodfellows will be supporting local food banks and feeding the hungry.

Starting next Monday, March 4, we’ll stop in a different community in Chatham-Kent each day to collect food donations. Directly after the food drive wraps up, we’ll bring your donations to the food bank in that community.

For every donation, you’ll also get a ballot for a chance to win a high-efficiency Lennox furnace with installation included from Postma Heating and Cooling.

Locations and more details will be posted soon.

Playoff schedules have been released for the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

The Blenheim Blades will kick off their series against the Amherstburg Admirals on Thursday, February 29 in Blenheim at 7 p.m.

The Wheatley Omstead Sharks will also be on home ice when they begin their series against the Mooretown Flags on February 28 at 7:30 p.m.

The Dresden Kings will begin their series against the 73s in Essex on February 27 at 7 p.m.

Full PJHL playoff schedules can be found here.

The Chatham Maroons regular season in the GOJHL will wrap up Sunday (March 3rd) at Chatham Memorial Arena at 7p.m.

We’re in for a fairly spring-like start to the week according to Environment Canada.

Monday calls for a high of 9C with plenty of sunshine. We’ll see highs of 13C mid-week with some showers possible.

The sunshine returns for the end of the work week as temperatures cool off slightly.

After its shortest season ever, the Rideau Canal Skateway in Ottawa is officially closed.

The National Captial Commission announced on Sunday afternoon that the canal would close at 10 p.m. Sunday.

Due to unpredictable weather, the Skateway was only open for a total of 10 days this year, making it the shortest season ever, excluding last season, when it didn’t open.

Another blood donor clinic is happening locally this week.

You’ll have a chance to give the gift of life on Tuesday at the UAW Hall Wallaceburg from 1-7 p.m.

A reminder that no walk-ins are available but you can book your appointment at blood.ca, by calling 1-888-2-donate or on the Canadian Blood Services app.
