5 Things You Need To Know

March 19th is the 79th day of the year. There are 287 days remaining until the end of the year.

Spring officially arrives at 11:06 p.m tonight.

For the next three months here in the Northern Hemisphere the days will grow longer, that will lead us to June’s Summer Solstice on June 20th, the longest day of the year.

March 19th is actually the earliest day that Spring can be. The last time it happened was 2020, but prior to that it was 128 years ago. It all has to do with Leap Days and Daylight Saving Time.

With Spring officially here, the Chatham-Kent Public Library‘s Seed Library will open to allow residents to “borrow” seeds from all branches.

The CKPL Grows Seed Library will offer a variety of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds at each branch. Library members can borrow seeds for free, save the seeds they grow, and return some of those seeds back to the library at the end of the growing season. Gardeners are also encouraged to “grow a row” for Salvation Army food banks. Produce can then be donated at Salvation Army food banks, in Chatham, Blenheim, Ridgetown and Wallaceburg.

Last year, more than 6,300 seed packages were distributed across the municipality.

Former Prime Minister of Canada, Brian Mulroney will lie-in-state at the Sir John A. Macdonald Building in Ottawa today and tomorrow.

Members of the public can visit this afternoon or Wednesday morning.

The funeral ceremony will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Eulogies will be offered by Caroline Mulroney, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Wayne Gretzky, James Baker, and Jean Charest. The funeral ceremony will be broadcast live from Montréal on Canadian Heritage‘s Facebook and YouTube channel on Saturday.

Mulroney was Canada’s 18th Prime Minister, he passed away on February 29th.

NCAA March Madness begins today.

The tournament begins today with the “First Four” a pair of play-in games to help decide which teams will be the #16 seed in the four-tournament regions.

The tourney really gets rolling with the Round of 64 on Thursday and Friday. The final is set for Monday, April 8th.
