5 Things You Need To Know

March 8th is the 66th day of the year. There are 298 days remaining until the end of the year.

The CKMORNINGS Community Food Drive wraps up at the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham this morning.

Chatham Goodfellows will be at the store to collect your donations beginning at 7 a.m. Food raised in each community will stay in that community! Every donation gets a ballot to win a high efficiency Lennox furnace (and installation) from Postma Heating & Cooling.

Thank you to everyone who has donated this week.

Looking for something to do over the March Break?

Next week there are free swim sessions at the Wallaceburg Sydenham Pool Sunday to Saturday 2:30-4 p.m. There’s also some bonus times on Friday and Saturday (March 15-16) 6-8 p.m.

Last month was the planet’s hottest February on record, marking the ninth straight month that global records have been surpassed.

February was 1.77 degrees Celsius warmer than the average February in pre-industrial times, that ends the hottest 12-month period in recorded history, at 1.56 degrees above pre-industrial levels.

Today we’ve got some sunshine, clouds and rain with a high of 10C.

Today is International Women’s Day, part of Women’s History Month. The goal is to bring attention to women’s accomplishments and obstacles around the world.

International Women’s Day was first suggested at a 1910 women’s conference in Copenhagen by activist Clara Zetkin. The first “IWD” was observed in Germany the next year.

It’s a national holiday in China and Russia, where female workers are presented with flowers and gifts.

This year’s theme is Inspire Inclusion.

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday morning at 2am.

The clocks ‘Spring Forward’ one hour. Most of our computers, phones, and other electronic devices make the change on their own.

The semi-annual clock reset is also a good excuse for “Check Your Batteries Day”, when you test and/or replace smoke alarm batteries.

If you love the later sunsets, as of Sunday we won’t see another sunset before 7 p.m. until September 30; That’s six long months to soak in the brighter days.
