5 Things You Need To Know

April 19th is the 110th day of the year. There are 256 days remaining until the end of the year.

We now know what the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers will be wearing on the field when they play their inaugural season next month.

The team unveiled both their home and away uniforms on Thursday afternoon.

The Barnstormers will open the season in Brantford on May 17th against the Red Sox. The first game at Fergie Jenkins Field will be the next day, Saturday, May 18th against the Kitchener Panthers.

Meanwhile, billet families and gameday volunteers are still needed.

The Barnstormers weren’t the only team unveiling uniforms this week.

The Detroit Lions will enter the 2024 season with a new look, which was revealed on Thursday.

The updated jerseys were inspired by Ford Motor Company’s relaunching of the Bronco in 2021 and borrow from the Lions’ early 1990s look. It includes slight changes to the presentation of the team’s color scheme, a reworking of the number font along with sharpening the contrast of the numbers and nameplates.

The more noticeable changes were reserved for the team’s alternate uniforms. The all-gray jerseys are out, replaced by a black jersey and pants combo.

There’s a chance to support local animals this weekend.

CK Animal Rescue is hosting a BBQ fundraiser on Saturday at Peavey Mart in Chatham.

The BBQ runs from 11am-3pm.

If you find yourself anywhere along the Detroit River this weekend, don’t be alarmed if you see some unusual activity.

Several vessels from various organizations will take part in a large emergency preparedness marine training exercise.

Police in communities along the Detroit River are warning people that they may notice extra activity in the waterways and that pyrotechnics may be used during the training scenarios as well.

If you look up to the sky this weekend, you might catch some meteors.

The Lyrid meteor shower is underway and is expected to peak Sunday, April 21 into Monday, April 22.

However, with a nearly full moon in the sky during the peak, it might be tough to see it clearly.

The Lyrids occur every year in mid-to-late April, with around 10-20 meteors per hour during its peak.
