April’s full moon revealed itself last night.

It reaches the crest of its full phase at 7:49 p.m. this evening. NASA says it will be visible from tonight until Thursday morning.

This month, April’s full moon is also known as the Pink moon. The name comes from the bloom of the ground phlox, a pink flower common in North America.

Nineteen years ago today, in 2005, the very first YouTube video was posted.

It was a clip of one of the co-founders standing in front of elephants at the San Diego Zoo.

The domain name YouTube.com, which ultimately became the social media platform and website for sharing videos, was registered on February 14, 2005. The video was posted on YouTube a month before the platform’s public launch in May 2005.

YouTube was registered by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim, three former employees of PayPal. They initially hoped to start a dating website but soon realized that ordinary people would enjoy sharing their home videos.

The company was purchased by Google just over a year later.
