The 10th CK Expo is this weekend at the John D. Bradley Centre.
Saturday from 10-6 and Sunday 10-5.
Tickets for annual pop culture show are $15 in advance, $20 at the door and kids 9 and under are free. Full weekend pass is $25 in advance, $40 door. The event features cosplay, special guests, a games room and more. Full details at CKExpo.ca.
The Sydenham River Canoe and Kayak Race is Saturday.
This will be the 50th race. The starting line is located on Mosside Line just west of Country Road 79 in Dawn-Euphemia.
The race features eleven classes and three different race lengths for both competitive and recreational paddlers. There are normally between 70 to 100 participants.
Participants are required to bring their own canoe or kayak equipped with a whistle, bailer and 50 feet of rope. Approved personal flotation devices or life jackets must be worn by each paddler.
Registration cost is $10 cash per person and paddlers will be able to register at the event. Click here for more information.
The Canada Border Services Agency is advising travellers to be prepared for slow downs if they plan on crossing the Windsor-Detroit border over the next three days.
Thousands will be headed to the NFL Draft in downtown Detroit from today and tomorrow.
It might be easier to take the Transit Windsor Special Event Bus across. Ten to twelve buses will be going over every hour and a capacity of about 8,000 people per day. Reservations are required. Buses will depart every hour starting at 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Passengers may board any returning bus until 1:30 a.m.
The legendary Hockey Night in Canada play by play voice, Bob Cole, has passed away. He was 90.
He started calling national radio broadcasts in 1969, moving to television in 1973 and would be a staple of Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts for decades to come. Cole called his last game in 2019; the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Montreal Canadiens.
His trademark call — “Oh, baby!” — was legendary.
In January of 1976, his call, “They’re going home,” became iconic. Russia’s Red Army hockey team temporarily headed to the changing room during a heated match with the Philadelphia Flyers, then the reigning Stanley Cup champs.
