The Eurovision Song Contest begins today in Malmo, Sweden.
The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual televised competition. The theme this year is “United by Music”, and it features 37 performers chosen to represent their country. Songs must be original and no more than three minutes long. Croatia is the odds on favourite to win this year.
The glittery, pyrotechnic-filled spectacle draws in around 160 million viewers, making it the world’s most-watched nonsports event — surpassed only by the Olympics and the World Cup. Eurovision is often likened to the Olympics of pop music. The first Eurovision was in 1956.
Fifty years ago, then-little-known Swedish band ABBA won with “Waterloo,” a song that has since entered the ranks of pop classics. In 1988, a young Céline Dion was launched into fame when she won for Switzerland with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi.”
The Detroit Tigers unveiled their City Connect jerseys on Monday.
The City Connect series jerseys were introduced by Major League Baseball in the 2021 season, the alternate uniforms feature different colours, fonts and graphics than a team’s home and away uniforms, and celebrate each city’s history and culture.
The Tigers will wear the uniform for the first time Friday and for the second time Saturday at Comerica Park against the Houston Astros. After that, the Tigers will wear the City Connects for every Friday home game throughout the remainder of the 2024 schedule.
Not every team has a City Connect jersey. The Tigers are one of six that are being released this year. The Blue Jays will release their design on May 30th.

Apple will host their first official Apple Event of the year.
Apple holds three or four live or live-streamed events throughout the year where the company unveils its latest products and plans during a keynote address.
They are expected to launch at least two new premium iPads along with Pencil (3rd Gen) stylus and more accessories today. The event has been teased with the tagline “Let Loose” with a drawing of a hand holding an Apple Pencil.
Outside of that, experts believe it will be a much smaller event than usual for Apple.
The Beer Mile World Classic is coming to Windsor.
The event will be held at the University of Windsor’s Alumni Stadium on August 17th. Tickets are now available online.
The beer mile began back in the 80s, when a group of varsity athletes gathered at season’s end for the underground race. Over time, various teams would post times online and compare amongst themselves to see which city boasted the best beer milers.
The current world record holder, Windsor’s own Corey Bellemore will try to break his world best time on home turf. Bellemore has been competing in the Beer Mile since 2016 and has been the undisputed world record holder, breaking his own records multiple times, including his best in 2021: four minutes and 28 seconds.
The beer mile is four laps of a track, or one mile combined, drinking a beer before you start each lap, for a total of four beers. The basic rules are: the beers must in a 341 millilitre bottle and at least 5 per cent alcohol. And you don’t want to “chunder” aka puking. “Chundering” will cost runners a one-lap penalty, all but eliminating a runner from contention.
Bellemore and a field representing about 13 different countries will take part in the elite race, with competitive men’s and women’s divisions. But anyone can give it a try, there’s also an open race that will run beforehand, where participants will drink alcohol-free beer.
