Major League Baseball has announced that five players have been banned from baseball.

Tucupita Marcano of the San Diego Padres has been banned for life for betting on MLB games. He bet on 25 Pittsburgh Pirates games while he was on the team, but he was injured during all of them and lost all those bets.

He gambled more than $150K on baseball and won just 4.3% of his MLB bets.

The other four players have been ruled ineligible for one year for violating MLB’s sports betting rules and policies.

Speaking of baseball, the Detroit Tigers are retiring the number 10 this summer.

On August 3rd, the Tigers will retire the jersey of former manager Jim Leyland recognizing his contributions to the club and the game of baseball.

It will be the 10th number retired by the team. The 79 year-old Leyland will be inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame next month, the 23rd manager in the hall.

He won 1,769 regular-season games over 22 seasons, leading the Tigers to a 700-597 record from 2006-13 and a pair of American League pennants in 2006 and 2012. His wins are third among Detroit managers, trailing Sparky Anderson (1,331) and Hughie Jennings (1,131). Leyland also managed Pittsburgh, Florida and Colorado, leading the Marlins to the 1997 World Series title.
