5 Things You Need To Know

June 7th is the 159th day of the year. There are 207 days remaining until the end of the year.

Couple of farmers markets in C-K this weekend.

The Wallaceburg Farmers Market is open 8am-noon in the municipal parking lot on James St. It’ll run bi-weekly until October.

Ridgetown hosts a Farmers Market Saturday 8-noon. The market is held on Main St. every Saturday until October 14th.

RM’s Cars & Coffee is back tomorrow

Cruise on in to RM Classic Cars (One Classic Car Drive, Blenheim, Ontario) for a morning of all things automotive. There are three total Cars & Coffee events this summer:

  • Saturday, June 8
  • Saturday, July 13
  • Saturday, September 14

Come out 8–11am, rain or shine, with coffee & donuts will be on hand for the first 250 guests.

The event is a chance for enthusiasts to get to know the RM Auto Restoration team and get a glimpse inside the shop that helped dub Chatham-Kent ‘Canada’s Classic Car Capital’.

Game 6: Friday, June 21, 8 p.m.*

You’re wondering why the schedule is so spread out for the Stanley Cup Finals? Each Team will be traveling over 4088 kms from Edmonton to Sunrise, Florida. It’s the longest distance between Stanley Cup Final opponents in NHL history.

  • There will be a couple of firsts for the 2024 Cup:
The first name Evan has never appeared on the Stanley Cup, until now. All players have their names engraved on the trophy, this year an Evan will be added. Either Evan Bouchard of the Oilers or Florida’s Evan Rodrigues.
  • The Stanley Cup Final will mark the first time a major sports league airs games in ASL (American Sign Language) with each game of the series featuring deaf broadcasters doing play by play and colour analysis. The broadcasts will be available on Sportsnet+.

Tonight will be the last appearance on the Wheel of Fortune for host Pat Sajak.

The 76-year-old Sajak announced his retirement last June. He’s been the host since 1983, 41 years in total. He will be sticking around as a consultant for three years.

Ryan Seacrest will be the new host.

Vanna’s not going anywhere. She extended her contract through the 2025 – ’26 season, taking her two years into Seacrest’s run as host. There’s no word how much Vanna’s making, but sources say she got a “substantial increase” from the $3 million salary she’s been earning for the past 18 years.

Today is Donut Day. It falls on the first Friday in June every year.

In 1938, Donut Day was established as a way to honour the members of the Salvation Army that came to the aid of soldiers during World War I. The “Donut Lassies” would fry up donuts in a war helmet, frying up 7 at a time.
