The Mirage Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip will shut its doors today after more than three decades in business.

Opened in 1989 by casino mogul Steve Wynn, the Mirage was the first resort to have a sidewalk attraction with its erupting volcano. That pushed the Bellagio and Venetian to imitate it with dancing fountains and canals.

Under a Nevada state law, if a casino is closing and they have had a progressive jackpots building from slot machines or table games, they have to pay out that money even though they’re closing. Over the last week they’ve had to pay out over $1.6 million dollar. The Mirage was giving some of the money out with hourly draws; anyone at a slot machine was eligible for the up to $10,000 draws. Every slot machine was taken.

The resort will undergo a three-year renovation and reopen in 2027 as Hard Rock Las Vegas, with a soaring 700-foot-tall hotel tower in the shape of a guitar, with the volcano being destroyed to make space for new rooms.

Today is Tim Horton’s Camp Day.

Visit Tim Horton’s to buy a coffee or iced coffee and help change a life by sending youth from disadvantaged circumstances to Tim Hortons Foundation Camps.

100% of proceeds from all Tim Hortons coffee purchases on Camp Day will help send youth – at no cost to them – to a Tims Camp for a multi-year, camp-based development program where they will be empowered to believe in their own potential and change their stories for the better.

There are a couple different ways to send a kid to camp, the easiest is to buy a hot or iced coffee at a Tim Hortons, but you can also help by:

  • Purchase a Camp Day bracelet for $3 or a $2 Donation Badge.
  • Round Up your order or drop change into the coin box.
  • Order a Camp Day donut at participating restaurants in Canada for $2.
  • Make a one-time or monthly donation in a restaurant or online.

Go to TimsCamps.com for more information.
