A flood watch has been issued by the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA).

It’ll be in effect for the Thames River and surrounding low-lying areas until Monday due to heavy rain. The promenade along the Thames River in Chatham and Simcoe Lane in Chatham under the Fifth Street Bridge are expected to flood in the coming days. The river is expected to peak in Chatham tonight.

The LTVCA reminds you to be extra cautious and avoid the river as well as ditches and streams because slippery banks and fast-flowing water can be dangerous.


Blenheim Cherryfest and Sidewalk sales begins today!

Cherryfest is one of Chatham-Kent’s longest-running and oldest festivals. It’s been a yearly tradition since the ’80s.

World’s Finest Shows is handling the midway. Sidewalk sales, entertainment capped off with the Canadian Cherry Pit Spit competition on Saturday beginning at noon.

It’s a Summer Movie Doubleheader at the Chatham Capitol Theatre today.

Bring the family out this afternoon to see Disney’s Fantasia 2000 beginning at 3 p.m. A League of Their Own will be on the big screen tonight beginning at 7 p.m.

The weekly Dresden Rotary Club Summer Concert Series concert is tonight.

Jacklyn Wills takes the stage at 7. Sidestreets will host a BBQ beginning at 7.

The Talbot Trail Place Summer Concert Series takes the stage tonight in Blenheim.

Stop by the park on Thursday nights during the Summer for live entertainment between 7-8:30 p.m. The Rotary Club of Blenheim will be on hand serving up hot dogs, pop, water and ice cream treats.

The British Open begins today.

The 152nd Open Championship — known outside the UK as the British Open — begins today at Royal Troon in Scotland.

The Open wraps up golf’s major season, it is one of the four Grand Slam golf tournaments (The Masters Tournament, U.S. Open Championship, The Open Championship and U.S. PGA Championship)

The British Open winner receives what is commonly known as the claret jug but is officially named the Golf Champion Trophy. It first was awarded in 1873 and since 1928, the British Open winner gets to keep the original for one year before returning it and receiving a replica. This years winner will take home $3.1 million.
