There will be 10,500 athletes participating in the parade as well as live performances throughout the ceremony.

Canada will be sending 338 athletes to Paris, including noteable names like swimmers Penny Oleksiak and Summer McIntosh, as well as sprinter Andre De Grasse. Locally, Chatham’s Bridget Carleton makes her second Olympic team for Women’s Basketball. Bothwell’s Nick Wammes will compete in Cycling representing Canada at the games for the second time. Ridgetown’s Chris von Martels will make his third games appearance in Equestrian – Dressage, currently he’s listed as an alternate.

Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evenings until early September. Admission is free.

This week British Beat 66 takes the stage.

Earth’s three hottest days on record were all this week.

Sunday broke the record, then Monday beat it, and Tuesday almost beat it again.

The record is now 62.87 degrees, which doesn’t sound bad, but that’s the worldwide average. It’s winter in the southern hemisphere.
