5 Things You Need To Know

August 21st is the 234th day of the year. There are 132 days remaining until the end of the year.

The Chatham Concert Band is back on stage tonight.

This is the 96th year for the Summer Concert Series, the show is free beginning at 7pm. Next week is the final show of the Summer.

Conductor Vaughn Pugh will chat with CKMORNINGS at 6:50 this morning.

The Chatham Courthouse and Jail Tours have been so popular, they’ll continue into September.

Originally scheduled to run until the end of the month, they’ll now hold tours in September at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday

For August tours are being held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until the end of August at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Ticket prices are $20 for all ages, plus HST fees.

Tickets are available here.

The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers playoff picture isn’t any clearer this morning.

The Barnstormers are locked into the 5th seed and are waiting for their first round opponent, the London Majors and Guelph Royals are 3rd and 4th, with one final game in London tonight.

Guelph beat London 8-2 last night. If London won Chatham would have played Guelph beginning this weekend. With the Royals winning, a win tonight would leave the teams tied.

Chatham-Kent will not host game 1, that’s guaranteed. Playoff tickets for game 2 (and game 4 if needed) go on sale today at 10 a.m. at the Ewald Homes Field House (next to Fergie Jenkins Field) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and online at CKBarnstormers.com while they last.

Maria Branyas, the world’s oldest person has passed away at 117 years old.

She lived in a nursing home in Spain. Her family stated that she wanted to meet death with a smile, feeling free and satisfied.

Branyas was born in San Francisco on March 4, 1907. After living for some years in New Orleans, where her father founded a magazine, her family returned to Spain when she was young.

Her family ran her Twitter/X account called “Super Catalan Grandma” and has the description: “I am old, very old, but not an idiot.”

Her family wrote days before her death: “I don’t know when, but very soon this long journey will come to an end. Death will find me worn down from having lived so much, but I want to meet it with a smile, feeling free and satisfied.”

Japan’s Tomiko Itooka, who is 116 years old, is now the world’s oldest person.
