The walk is technically a 5k, but you’re welcome to do what you can. The money raised by the walk will go to support kidney dialysis patients, Camp Dorset which allows for vacation opportunities for dialysis patients and their families, and for kidney disease research.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m.
The Kiwanis Club of Chatham’s Bottles for Books campaign is underway right now.
Until Saturday, September 7th, the club is collecting empty alcohol bottles and cans.
The campaign raises funds to be used towards the distribution of books through The Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is an initiative that promotes the love of reading and literacy in kids ages zero to five by sending registered kids a book each month.
During the donation drive, CK residents can fill out this form to arrange for a bottle pick-up or a drop-off location.
On Tuesday, Phoenix hit its 100th straight day with at least 100-degree temperatures. The previous record of 76 days in a row was set back in 1993, and has long been shattered.
The temperature hit 102 F (38.9 C) in Phoenix on May 27 and has made it to triple digits every day since. There have been 37 nights this summer that didn’t cool off below 90 F ( 32.2 C), another record.
It doesn’t look like a break is coming any time soon. Unseasonably high temperatures are expected this week across the western U.S., with an excessive heat warning forecast for today through Friday in Arizona.
We’re officially into the “ber” months — September, October, November and December. Travel experts say that as temperatures cool off, so do the travel prices. It’s the best time of year to go pretty much anywhere due to lower airfares, fewer people and nice weather.
Airfare prices drop considerably from summer to September and October that those big, longer, expensive vacations go for about 30% less across the board.
Walt Disney World Resort theme park tickets for midweek dates in September are about as low as they go – starting at $109 for a single-day. Flights to Orlando and other popular spots in Florida are cheaper, too. Fall prices drop on average about $80 a ticket.
Cruise lines are moving their ships from one region to another as the seasons change. That means some great deals for travelers who are willing to make an “open-jaw sailing.” That’s a voyage that departs from one port and arrives in a different one.
