Rubik’s Cube will be celebrating the toy’s 51st anniversary today.

A Hungarian architecture professor, Ernő Rubik, created his prototype of a three-dimensional cube in 1974. In the years following, it was used by Rubik to teach his students about three-dimensional spaces.

Eventually Erno took the cube to a toy fair and it didn’t take long to fascinate young and old. Rubik’s Magic Cube launched in 1982 and sold more than 14 million units worldwide quickly. Millions of Rubik’s Cubes are still sold every year.

Rubik’s is owned by Canadian company Spin Master.

Today is Leon Day.

‘Leon’ is ‘noel’ spelled backward.

Today, June 25th, marks the point when this year’s Christmas starts coming closer than last year’s Christmas.
