Environment Canada has issued a multi-day “heat event” for Chatham-Kent and most of Ontario and parts of Quebec.

Sunny today with a high of 31C, that will feel like 42 with the humidex. There’s a slight chance of some rain today. Overnight low temperatures are expected to range between 19 and 23 C, providing little relief from the heat.

During heat warnings, people are advised to drink water often, watch for signs of heat exhaustion and to check on older adults and those at risk of heat illness.


Chatham-Kent council will hold a special meeting to discuss the new homeless encampment tonight.

Mayor Darrin Canniff called for the meeting due to all the issues and concerns being raised by members of the public over the location next to the Public Utilities Commission property on Grand Avenue East.

The special council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The meeting will be streamed on the municipality’s Facebook Page.


Despite losing on Sunday, the Toronto Blue Jays flew out of Detroit at the top team in Major League Baseball with a record of 63-43.

The Jays have won 19 of their last 24 games, shooting up the standings. They’re 5.5 games ahead of the Yankees in their division.

The Blue Jays begin a four-game series tonight in Baltimore against the Orioles. Detroit remains home for a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.


The annual Athletes’ Fuel Cup hockey tournament begins this week at Thames Campus arena.

The first games will be tomorrow and wrap up with playoff games on August 19th.

Some of C-K’s best hockey players get ready for the season in a tournament that everyone is welcome to watch.

Music superstar The Weeknd was awarded a key to the city on Saturday from Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow.

The four-time Grammy Award winner has frequently credited his hometown with shaping his identity and laying the foundation for his explosive musical career.

Chow also officially proclaimed Saturday, July 26 to Sunday, July 27, 2025 as the “Weeknd Weekend” in Toronto.

He’s going to play four shows at the Rogers Centre over the next two weeks; last night, and tonight. Then, again on August 7 and 8.
