5 Things You Need To Know

January 8th is the 8th day of the year. There are 358 days remaining until the end of the year.


All classes resume at schools across Chatham-Kent this morning.

Sun and cloud with an expected high of 3C.

Buses are back on the roads as things get back to “normal” for 2024.


The Chatham-Kent Film Group will screen Anatomy of a Fall today at the Capitol Theatre.

Showings at 4 and 7pm. Admission is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the door.

The C-K Film Group screens independent films the first Monday of the month.

The next film screening will be held on Monday, February 5th.


The NFL season is over.

The Detroit Lions finish the regular season 12-5 and win the NFC North. The 12 wins ties a franchise record in a season. This weekend will be the first-ever playoff game at Ford Field. Detroit will be looking to win their first playoff game since January 5, 1992 – that would snap a 9 game playoff losing streak.

The Lions will play the LA Rams lead by their former quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Speaking of football…

The college football championship game is tonight.

The Michigan Wolverines and Washington Huskies face off tonight in the College Football Playoff National Championship in Houston.

Kick off is at 7:30 on TSN.


Canada Post announced last week that Mary Ann Shadd will be featured on a stamp in 2024.

Shadd is North America’s first Black female newspaper publisher who lived in Windsor and later Chatham-Kent.

The stamp will be issued ahead of Black History Month as part of its 2024 lineup. The unveiling event for Shadd’s stamp will be held in Chatham later this month.
