Earth Day has been celebrated by billions the globe, annually every April 22nd to promote awareness for the health of our environment. The first ever earth day was 1970.
Before 1970, there were basically no laws protecting the environment. Factories could pump out as much smoke as they wanted, or dump toxic waste in rivers, and it was perfectly legal. Earth Day helps raise awareness for environmental causes. According to EarthDay.org, the first Earth Day helped pass the Clean Water Act, and also got U.S. President Nixon to create the Environmental Protection Agency.
The Earth Day 2024 theme is Planet vs Plastics. The theme aims to bring attention to the serious issue of plastic pollution and how it harms nature.
